Before MiFi was a word. The XYFI was Option's battery-powered portable 3G hotspot - a device that created a personal Wi-Fi zone from a SIM card. Up to five devices simultaneously, pocket-sized, and genuinely novel in 2010.
| Network | HSPA / UMTS / EDGE / GPRS |
| Wi-Fi | 802.11b/g |
| Max Clients | 5 simultaneous devices |
| Battery | Built-in rechargeable lithium |
| SIM | Standard SIM (2FF) |
| Charging | Micro USB |
| Form Factor | Pocket / portable |
The XYFI arrived in the same year as Novatel's original MiFi. Both chased the same insight: a USB dongle tied you to one device. A Wi-Fi hotspot untied everyone. The concept is now universal. The modern equivalent - a 5G FWA router - delivers 500Mbps to 20+ devices.
